We study competition in data-driven markets, where the cost of quality production decreases amount machine-generated data about user preferences or characteristics. This gives rise to indirect network effects. construct a dynamic model R&D competition, duopolists repeatedly determine innovation investments. Such markets tip under very mild conditions, moving towards monopoly. After tipping, incentives both for dominant firm and competitor are small. show when can leverage its dominance connected market, thereby initiating domino effect. Market tipping be avoided if competitors share their information.
